Fake green peas (kacang hijau)

I received this info from a friend via e-mail and feel that I must blog this so that the public would be more careful when buying green peas.  Whether the article is true or not, it is still no harm to take extra care when buying any food stuff.

#Green peas are green rounded pea seeds that are sweet and starchy in taste. Green peas contains twice the protein of most vegetable, so they are a healthier substitute for meat. Three quarters cup of peas provides 6 grams of protein, plus thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium and 645 units of vitamin A. Unfortunately most of food industries in developing nations cheating the customers with fake greens peas which are prepared from toxic chemicals (dyes). These industries preparing the green peas from brown peas (cheaper) by soaking them in dye solution for overnight.
All these chemicals have been banned by US food and drug administration in 1974 itself. Frequent consumption of fake green peas leads to colon and bladder cancer. All these fake green peas banned in US, Canada, all European countries and other developed countries.

Identification of fake green peas:
1. Put the peas in boil water for 30 seconds. Water turns to green color.
2. After consumption check your tongue to observe green color stains and light bitter in taste.

Symptoms
1. Stomach irritation, pain or acidity.
2. Urine turns to light green color.
3. Mild head ache.

Case study
I am a common person too and not aware of these things. After consumption of fake green peas, I got stomach pain, with a little bit common sense, I observed my tongue which was having green stains. The following packet bought from Tesco, Penang on 4th July 2010.

As a responsible chemist, I started analysis of the above mentioned peas in laboratory. I find the toxic chemicals (green dyes). Be Thankful

There was a man who loved his wife very much. The couple had 3 children. He would give her everything he could but the woman never appreciated. Though the man was not rich, but he would share all he had with her.

He would buy  clothes for her and the only thing his wife would say was that the husband was fulfilling his duty as a Man.  The man would buy a dress but in reply, the woman would mock at him, because the dress was of low quality.  The man would smile at his wife and tell her, "one day, I will be rich and I will buy for you all the expensive things you need."
The woman would never make any phone call unless she was requesting anything from her husband and once her request was not granted, all she could do was to quarrel for days, sometimes fight.

One evening, the man was coming home from work. He bought a kilogram of meat.  Happily,  the poor man was expecting to surprise his wife. He reached home and showed her the package.  Then she shouted: "Eh! You call yourself a man? Which husband, apart from you, do you think comes home with just one kilograme, but no cooking oil, no any other ingredients? You better leave it, you are a good-for-nothing husband."

Then she threw the meat to the bush.  The husband felt low but he never let down his love for her.

One day, the husband felt pain in his left foot. He found a tumor appeared on the foot, it was  growing big and  painful.  He went to the hospital after several months of pain and was told he had cancer. He was poor to have a better medical treatment.  Though he was sick, he tried as much as he could to provide for his family.

Two years later, the condition worsened and he was admitted to the hospital and his foot was removed.  Unfortunately,  most part of his body was already affected.

At last he called his wife and told her, "LOOK AFTER MY CHILDREN, I feel I can't live any longer though I'll always be with you in spirit, may God be with you"

He then breathed his last and died.
The woman and three children cried days.
Two months later, the wife was bowing down on her husbands grave as she said these words:
"My love, you did all the best for me, you treated me well and gave me all you could, but all I could pay you, was endless quarrels and fights.  I never realised your importance and your love until  you are gone.

I remember  I threw your one kilogram of meat, but now I have nowhere to get even half a kilo.

'THE GOOD DIE YOUNG'.  That's why you died when you were still young.  A husband whom I could mock at, but you only smiled at me. The husband who could care and had unending love.
I know you are listening to me and I ask you to forgive me for not appreciating all you did for me when you were alived.

We are all missing your presence as your youngest daughter Diana is always crying and asking when you'll be back.
But you will never leave our hearts
until we join you.  May you Rest in Eternal Peace."

Moral of the story:
* Always appreciate what you are given, whether small or big.
* Love is not all about how much we have,
but it's all about how we share the little we have.

The latest in a long line of potential 'Superfoods'

The purple sweet potato:
The purple sweet potato, the latest food item presented to the general public as a potential superfood. The potato's colouring contained the chemical anthocyanin, which is known to lower the risk of cancer and could even possibly slow down certain types of the disease. The colour is the important part because the purple colour is responsible for the amount of anthocyanin in the potato.

Scientists have already used two strands of anthocyanin to treat colon cancer and found that the pigment slowed down the growth of cancerous cells. Anthocyanin, which produces red, blue or purple colours in different types of food, can also be found in blueberries, red grapes and red cabbage, however the specially grown purple sweet potato has a higher concentration of the chemical than any other species of potato. Dr Weiqun Wang, who was also involved in testing the potato, has said that the new purple sweet potato tasted sweeter than other potatoes but was still perfectly edible. According to Wang, "It's good not only for cancer prevention but other benefits like antioxidants as well."

SWEET POTATO (Kamote) far exceeds the nutrition and health values of rice. Here are the benefits of substituting rice with kamote:

1. Sweet potato is more filling and suppresses hunger pangs longer. It is also cheaper than rice.

2. Unlike rice, it is easy to grow. It grows in backyards with or without fertilizers.

3. Unlike rice which needs to be eaten with a dish, Sweet Potato tastes good and can be eaten by itself. Thus, substituting rice with sweet potato saves money for other needs.

4. Rice cannot match the nutritional values of potato. Because rice converts to sugar in the body.

5. The nutritional values of a 3 oz. baked sweet potato are: calories 90, fat 0 g, saturated fat 0 g, cholesterol 0 mg, carbohydrate 21 g, protein 2 g, dietary fiber 3 g, sodium 36 mg.

6. Sweet potato (kamote) can bring you good health and keep away some health problems.

7. Sweet Potato (kamote) lowers hypertension, bad cholesterol and even blood sugar when eaten as a substitute to rice!  The purple sweet potato (kamote) is particularly effective for lowering hypertension.

8. The Korean medical documentary credits the sweet potato (kamote) as high fiber and is one of the best foods that one can eat to prevent cancer!

The four treasures of food that shouldn't be wasted when eating

When eating certain food, there are certain parts which seemingly are useless and should be thrown away. In reality, their nutritional value could be higher than the food itself. Check if you have unknowingly wasted these.
Fish Eyes (Ughh !)
Fish eyes, especially mackerel family, contains rich quantity of DHA and EPA which are very rare unsaturated fatty acid. The most beneficial property of these natural substances is their ability to stimulate human brain cells, improve memory and thinking power, and also very helpful in preventing memory decline, high cholesterol and hypertension diseases. The common notion suggested is that eating certain animal parts would strengthen similar body parts of ours, and this has been proven correct by clinical experiments where fish eyes are concerned: they can help to reduce the deterioration of eyesight.

Fibres of orange or grapefruit peels
When eating oranges or grapefruits, after removing the peel, do not remove all the fibres that cover the fruits. In fact, the fibres contained a vitamin which helps to maintain the elasticity and density of the artery wall, which in turn reduces the danger of bleeding especially in the fine arteries. Hypertension patients usually have problem of brain haemorrage while diabetic patients have retina haemorrage. For people with tendency to bleed, especially old people with tendency of artery hardening, eating fibres of oranges and grapefruit peels is particularly helpful.

Bones
The nutritional value of bones are higher than that of the meat. Comparing the nutritional values of Pork bones and pork, the bones contain far more protein, iron, sodium and calories than meat. Bones contain 23% more protein than milk powder, 61% more than beef, three times as much as pork and more than double that of eggs. It has abundance of essential minerals that humans require, like vitamins A, B1 and B2 that are useful for slowing aging. The best part is, when boiled in soup, these nutritions become more readily absorbed by human body than plant-based food.

Chili Leaves
Chili leaves contains complete range of amino acid almost 4 times compared to the chili fruits. It also contains more than double what chili fruits have of which are anti-cancerous substance. On top of that, chili leaves are rich in calcium, beta carotene, various vitamins and other nutrients. Eating a suitable quantity of chili leaves enhances secretion of digestive juices, improves appetite and are good for indigestion, gastric and stomach discomfort. Regular intake of chili leaves also help in warming body, strengthen liver, improve eyesight, reduce weight and improve beauty. Chili leaves is tasty and can either be cooked alone, frying with meat or making soup.

Each Year He Sent Her Roses !!!!

The person who did this was Jack Benny....
Please read this - it is absolutely beautiful.....

Each year he sent her roses,

And the note would always say,

I love you even more this year,

Than last year on this day.

My love for you will always grow,

With every passing year.'

She knew this was the last time

That the roses would appear.

She thought, he ordered roses

In advance before this day.

Her loving husband did not know,

That he would pass away.

He always liked to do things early,

Way before the time.

Then, if he got too busy,

Everything would work out fine.

She trimmed the stems and

Placed them in a very special vase.

Then, sat the vase beside

The portrait of his smiling face.

She would sit for hours,

In her husband's favorite chair.

While staring at his picture,

And the roses sitting there.

A year went by, and it was

To live without her mate..

With loneliness and solitude,

That had become her fate.

Then, the very hour,

The doorbell rang, and there

Were roses sitting by her door.

She brought the roses in,

And then just looked at them in shock..

Then, went to get the telephone,

To call the florist shop.

The owner answered, and she asked him,

If he would explain, Why would someone

do this to her, causing her such pain?

'I know your husband passed away,

More than a year ago,'

The owner said,

'I knew you'd call, and you would want to know.'

The flowers you received today,

Were paid for in advance.

Your husband always planned ahead,

He left nothing to chance.

There is a standing order,

That I have on file down here,

And he has paid, well in advance,

You'll get them every year.

There also is another thing,

That I think you should know,

He wrote a special little card...he did this years ago.

Then, should ever I find out that he's no longer here,

that's the card that should be sent to you the following year.'

She thanked him and hung up the phone, her tears now flowing hard.

Her fingers shaking,

As she slowly reached to get the card.

Inside the card, she saw that he

Had written her a note...

Then, as she stared in total silence,

This is what he wrote..

'Hello my love, I know it's been a year

Since I've been gone....

I hope it hasn't been too hard for you to

Overcome.

I know it must be lonely,

And the pain is very real.

For if it was the other way,

I know how I would feel.

The love we shared made everything

So beautiful in life.

I loved you more than words can say,

You were the perfect wife.

You were my friend and lover,

You fulfilled my every need.

I know it's only been a year,

But please try not to grieve..

I want you to be happy,

Even when you shed your tears.

That is why the roses will be sent to you for years

When you get these roses,

Think of all the happiness that we had together,

And how both of us were blessed.

I have always loved you and

I know I always will.

But, my love, you must go on,

You have some living still.

Please...try to find happiness,

While living out your days.

I know it is not easy,

But I hope you find some ways.

The roses will come every year,

And they will only stop,

When your door's not answered,

When the florist stops to knock.

He will come five times that day,

In case! You have gone out.

But after his last visit,

He will know without a doubt!

To take the roses to the place,

Where I've instructed him

And place the roses where we are,

Together once again.

Sometimes in life, you find a special friend;

Someone who changes your life

Just by being part of it.

Someone who
makes you laugh

Until you can't stop;

Someone who makes you believe

That there really is good in the world.

Someone who convinces you

That there really is an unlocked door

Just waiting for you to open it.

This is Forever Friendship.

Healing Miracle for Burns

A young man sprinkling his lawn and bushes with pesticides wanted to check the contents of the barrel to see how much pesticide remained in it. He raised the cover and lit his lighter; the vapours ignited and engulfed him. He jumped from his truck, screaming. His neighbour came out of her house with a dozen eggs and a bowl yelling, "Bring me some more eggs!"

She broke them, separating the whites from the yolks.

The neighbour woman helped her to apply the whites onto the young man's face.

When the ambulance arrived and the EMTs saw the young man, they asked who had done this. Everyone pointed to the lady in charge.

They congratulated her and said, "You have saved his face."

By the end of the summer, the young man brought the lady a bouquet of roses to thank her. His face was like a baby's skin.

Keep in mind this treatment of burns is being included in teaching beginner fireman. First Aid consists of first spraying cold water on the affected area until the heat is reduced which stops the continued burning of all layers of the skin. Then, spread the egg whites onto the affected area.

One woman burned a large part of her hand with boiling water. In spite of the pain, she ran cold tap water on her hand, separated 2 egg whites from the yolks, beat them slightly and dipped her hand in the solution. The whites then dried and formed a protective layer. She later learned that the egg white is a natural collagen and continued during at least one hour to apply layer upon layer of beaten egg white. By afternoon she no longer felt any pain and the next day there was hardly a trace of the burn. 10 days later, no trace was left at all and her skin had regained its normal colour. The burned area was totally regenerated thanks to the collagen in the egg whites, a placenta full of vitamins.

Since this information could be helpful to everyone, won't you please share it with your loved ones?

How to Fight Dementia?

Most of us start worrying about dementia after retirement - and that may be too little, too late. Experts say that if you really want to ward off dementia, you need to start taking care of your brain in your 30s and 40s - or even earlier.

"More and more research is suggesting that lifestyle is very important to your brain's health," says Dr. Paul Nussbaum, a neuro-psychologist and an adjunct associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. "If you want to live a long, healthy life, then many of us need to start as early as we can."

So what can you do to beef up your brain - and possibly ward off dementia? Nussbaum, who recently gave a speech on the topic for the Winter Park (Fla.) Health Foundation, offers 20 tips that may help.

1. Join clubs or organizations that need volunteers. If you start volunteering now, you won't feel lost and unneeded after you retire.

2. Develop a hobby or two. Hobbies help you develop a robust brain because you're trying something new and complex.

3. Practise writing with your non-dominant hand several minutes everyday. This will exercise the opposite side of your brain and fire up those neurons.

4. Take dance lessons. In a study of nearly 500 people, dancing was the only regular physical activity associated with a significant decrease in the incidence of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. The people who danced three or four times a week showed 76 percent less incidence of dementia than those who danced only once a week or not at all.
5. Need a hobby? Start gardening. Researchers in New Zealand found that, of 1,000 people, those who gardened regularly were less likely to suffer from dementia! Not only does gardening reduce stress, but gardeners use their brains to plan gardens; they use visual and spatial reasoning to lay out a garden.

6. Walking daily can reduce the risk of dementia because cardiovascular health is important to maintain blood flow to the brain. Or... buy a pedometer and walk 10,000 steps a day.
7. Read and write daily. Reading stimulates a wide variety of brain areas that process and store information. Likewise, writing (not copying) stimulates many areas of the brain as well.
8. Start knitting. Using both hands works both sides of your brain. And it's a stress reducer.
9. Learn a new language. Whether it's a foreign language or sign language, you are working your brain by making it go back and forth between one language and the other. A researcher in England found that being bilingual seemed to delay symptoms of Alzheimer's disease for four years. And some research suggests that the earlier a child learns sign language, the higher his IQ - and people with high IQs are less likely to have dementia. So start them early.

10. Play board games such as Scrabble and Monopoly. Not only are you taxing your brain, you're socializing too. Playing solo games, such as solitaire or online computer brain games can be helpful, but Nussbaum prefers games that encourage you to socialize too.

11. Take classes throughout your lifetime. Learning produces structural and chemical changes in the brain, and education appears to help people live longer. Brain researchers have found that people with advanced degrees live longer - and if they do have Alzheimer's, it often becomes apparent only in the very later stages of the disease.

12. Listen to classical music. A growing volume of research suggests that music may hard wire the brain, building links between the two hemispheres. Any kind of music may work, but there's some research that shows positive effects for classical music, though researchers don't understand why.
13. Learn a musical instrument. It may be harder than it was when you were a kid, but you'll be developing a dormant part of your brain.

14. Travel. When you travel (whether it's to a distant vacation spot or on a different route across town), you're forcing your brain to navigate a new and complex environment. A study of London taxi drivers found experienced drivers had larger brains because they have to store lots of information about locations and how to navigate there.

15. Pray. Daily prayer appears to help your immune system. And people who attend a formal worship service regularly live longer and report happier, healthier lives.
16. Learn to meditate. It's important for your brain that you learn to shut out the stresses of everyday life.

17. Get enough sleep. Studies have shown a link between interrupted sleep and dementia.

18. Eat more foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids: Salmon, sardines, tuna, ocean trout, mackerel or herring, plus walnuts (which are higher in omega 3s than salmon) and flaxseed. Flaxseed oil, cod liver oil and walnut oil are good sources too.

19. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables mop up some of the damage caused by free radicals, one of the leading killers of brain cells.
20. Eat at least one meal a day with family and friends. You'll slow down, socialize, and research shows you'll eat healthier food than if you ate alone or on the go.

DOING ALL 20 THINGS LISTED ABOVE AND YOU WILL NOT FIND ENOUGH TIME IN YOUR LIFE TO FIT IN DEMENTIA AS WELL: IN OTHER WORDS, "CONTINUE TO DO ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU ALREADY DO AND YOU WILL HAVE COVERED MOST OF THE THINGS LISTED!"
